Building an R&I Ecosystem in the area of interdisciplinary research is a long and not easy process but it deserves because the success in in this has longterm effect. We have a period of more then a year to try to work together and we know that it happens and now have a plan of doing small parallel steps in synergy that includes interdisciplinary research between experts in two areas (Medicine, Computer Science), attracting new people to research activities (from different ages) and involving them not only learning sciences but also learning how to do research with multidisciplinary focus.
It is a Strategic Innovation Group in Bio Imaging Technology. Health, R&D and Computer science are directly involved in innovation processes. It will increase our perspective for innovation in health care and improve exchange between cross competencies; also will create opportunities for Education and Development of Cross-competencies. This International collaboration is an educational setting where students or professionals, such as medical/clinical, engineering, organization or industrial design, meet to focus on needs in the every-day realities of health care. I guess educational efforts combining professionals and students should be encouraged and supported.
As a member of the R&D image nuclei segmentation group, I am very happy and proud to see this initiative grow so rapidly under the dedicated guidance of prof. Momcheva and prof. Stoyanov. We have the unique chance to join forces with PhD, Master's and high school students, as well as academic and medical researchers and use new technologies to solve existing roadblocks in medical research. Our results are a showcase for the power of collaboration: in addition to our acquired knowledge gains, our image analysis techniques have a big potential to make an impactful contribution to the biomedical field.
