Building an Ecosystem

BioMed Varna is an interdisciplinary research community that brings together researchers, faculty members, students, and young innovators who share a common interest in biomedical science, technology, and data-driven research. The initiative was created to foster collaboration between different scientific domains and to support the development of innovative research projects that combine expertise from medicine, computer science, data science, and related fields.

At its core, BioMed Varna functions as a collaborative research ecosystem, where participants from diverse academic backgrounds work together on scientific exploration, experimentation, and knowledge exchange. By encouraging interdisciplinary cooperation, the community creates opportunities for new ideas, emerging technologies, and scientific methodologies to be applied to biomedical challenges.

Mission & Goals

The main objectives of the Foundation are:

(1) To create conditions for increasing research initiatives and research capacity by encouraging scientific and applied research activities with a specific focus on the interdisciplinary approach in:

– life sciences;

– computer sciences (with a specific focus on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity);

– the arts.

(2) To support the development of researchers and their research activities in the scientific fields under Para.1.

(3) To encourage entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial activities in the scientific fields under Para.1.

(4) To allocate funds for scholarships and to support educational and research activities in the scientific fields under Para. 1.

(5) To improve the educational environment in Bulgaria through:

– introduction, establishment, and development of best practices in STEM;

– encouraging and consolidating the values of open science and open knowledge;

– encouraging and supporting innovations in the scientific fields under Para. 1;

– supporting the training, specialization, qualification, and retraining of researchers with proven abilities in the scientific fields under Para. 1;

– supporting the construction and modernization of infrastructure for scientific research;

– disseminating scientific knowledge in the scientific fields under Para. 1 among students, university students, scientists, researchers, and the general public.

(6) To cooperate with existing networks and support the creation of new educational and scientific networks at the national and international levels. To support initiatives and activities of universities and schools with research and educational activities in the scientific fields under Para. 1.

(7) To establish contacts and carry out joint activities with regional, national, and international institutions, as well as interactions with organizations with a similar goal. To partner with local and foreign organizations with a view to implementing projects aimed at achieving the objectives of the Foundation.
